Early Career Framework

3 step process to register your ECT:

Once you successfully complete your Initial Teacher Training (ITT), you’ll become an Early Career Teacher (ECT). You will hold this status for the first 2 years of your career. To support you, the Department of Education (DfE) has put together the Early Career Framework (ECF). The ECF is part of an entitlement to a two-year structured package of support for future generations of teachers.

It was developed by the DfE in response to the 2019 Teacher Recruitment and Retention strategy. As an ECT, it will support you to develop and perfect your skills, knowledge and practice, so that you are able to establish a solid foundation for a rewarding and successful teaching career.

The ECF is divided into a number of core areas:

  • Behaviour and high expectations
  • Subject knowledge and curriculum
  • Pedagogy
  • Assessment
  • Professional behaviours

Our Hopes

We support our Early Career Teachers (ECTs) working in our different schools, phases and curricula areas.

As one of our ECTs, we ensure you will:

  • receive a programme of support, development and challenge to help you become an excellent classroom teacher;
  • have a mentor and a professional tutor in your school to help you put the theory into application in your context;
  • have access to regular, centralised ‘Trust ECF training’ which will provide you with community/peer support;
  • take part in school based ECF training, provided by experienced staff, using DfE accredited resources;
  • have regular development observations and be provided with quality developmental feedback; and
  • have opportunities brokered for you to observe expert colleagues within the Trust.

We hope to retain and develop our Trust ECTs and create a culture of ‘growing our own’ future leaders.
