BWCET are partnered with Education Development Trust and Northern Lights Teaching School Hub to deliver the Early Career Professional Development Programme across the North-East. The ITT Core Content Framework (CCF) and the ECF have been updated and combined to create the initial teacher training and early career framework (ITTECF). From September 2025, Teacher Entraining programmes for ECT’s should be based on ITTECF.
This two-year programme provides teachers with the essential specialist support they need to improve their practice and build confidence following their Initial Teacher Training. It arms early career teachers with skills they can use in the classroom straight away and offer the structured support needed to help them be the best teachers they can be. Mentors follow a pathway of training with us to support them in delivering the ECF to the ECT in school.
The Early Career Teacher Entitlement (ECTE) sets out an entitlement of support for all Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and underpins 2 years of professional development designed to support new teachers in developing their practice at the start of their careers. It sets out what early career teachers are entitled “to learn about” and “learn how to do” when in their first years of teaching. This is statutory for all early career teachers.

Schools are supported to onboard the ECTs, and our support extends across both induction years. Please follow this 3-step registration process for any of your staff starting in ECT Year 1 and 2.
We will also keep you up to date with ECT and mentor training sessions across the 2 year induction.
