We are delighted & proud to announce that Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust & BWCET Centre for Teaching are a Centre of Expertise for the North of England, working in partnership with The Bell Foundation – both aligned in our objective of improving outcomes for multilingual learners by embedding long-term, sustainable EAL provision and inclusive practices.
Building sustainable provision for learners who use English as an Additional Language (EAL) with the aim of improving their learning outcomes. Centres are accredited and quality assured by The Bell Foundation to run Language for Results training to schools in their regions and each Centre has a team of dedicated EAL trainers who are licensed and trained by The Bell Foundation to run high-quality EAL professional development courses for teachers and other school staff.
Our Autumn 2025 EAL session dates are as follows:
Leading a Whole School Strategy – 6th October 2025 – online – 3.30pm until 5.30pm
This session is for school leaders who are seeking innovative ways to drive evidence informed, impactful interventions for learners who use EAL. The session signposts school-wide systems, resources and training that will actively promote improved educational outcomes for EAL learners. We will look at the factors affecting the attainment of learners who use EAL, and then at what an inclusive pedagogy looks like, together with the implications for senior leaders.
Who is this session for?
Comprehensible English for New Arrivals using EAL – 26th November 2025 – online – 3.30pm until 5.30pm
This session for KS1/KS2/Secondary school staff aims to raise awareness of what is and what is not comprehensible, accessible English Language for learners who use EAL, particularly those who are New to English or in the Early Acquisition stages. The session considers what makes English difficult to understand and introduces a range of easy-to-use strategies for giving instructions and checking understanding which can be used both in and out of the classroom.
Who is this session for?
The session is relevant for all members of staff within the school setting, from administrators to teachers and senior leaderships teams.
How long is the session?
The session lasts one hour and 30 minutes
Adaptive Teaching for Learners using EAL – 21st October 2025 – online – 3.30pm until 5.30pm

Teaching Assistants: Working with Learners using EAL – Part 1, 9th September 2025 and Part 2, 16th September 2025 – online – 3.20pm until 4.15pm
This session aims to familiarise teaching assistants (TAs) with some of the challenges that learners using EAL might face when learning English and learning through English at the same time. The session introduces practical, easy to use strategies for supporting learners using EAL to develop the language skills they need to access the curriculum and fulfil their potential.

Classroom support staff in primary/secondary settings
